  9. Superscript. Ctrl-Shift-U or Ctrl-Shift-Up would work. I had to write an addin for previous versions of LiveWriter so I could put in footnote markers without switching to the HTML view and edit manually. It’s nice to see it on the ribbon, but a shortcut would help.

Subscript is less useful, I think, but others may use it often.

Even better would be actual support for adding a footnote. Some renumbering and automatic internal anchors would be great. I thought about doing it, but it’s a moderately annoying addin to write.

I would be very happy to settle for easy(ier) superscripts.

    • Yes we should add shortcuts for super/subscript. I think we will standardize those on what Office uses today if we can add this in:
      Ctrl+= for subscript
      Ctrl+SHIFT+PLUS SIGN for superscript

      Comment by Aaron Bregel — July 2, 2010 @ 2:01 PM

      • This is confusing to me. It works in WLW now, but it causes there to be a wider space between the lines where a superscript exists.

      • I have seen theme issues where the layout with super or subscript look a bit off in the editor. Things look fine in Web preview or publish along with if you turn off viewing with theme turned on.

  16. Using Ctrl + Alt + 1..6 for header styles is just plain wrong! Why not just Ctrl + 1..6 ? I have a blog about development and I’m using a French keyboard (AZERTY layout), and some of the most frequently used characters in code are accessed with exactly those key combinations. Now I can’t type the following characters in Live Writer anymore: “~#{[|” ! I have to copy/paste them from somewhere else, or use Alt + ASCII code…

      • Ctrl+Alt+1-6 matches what Office does for Heading style so the design makes sense. What really is wrong here is that you should still be able to use AltGr to enter the characters on keyboards like the AZERTY, QWERTZ, QWERTZU, etc. so that it is not interpeted as a ribbon shortcut. Note that Ctrl+Alt+V for Paste Special could also be affected such as on a QWERTZ keyboard in Hungary. It’s unfortunate that no one raised the issue in Beta testing but only France had a localized build where a keyboard with the AltGr key is commonly used.

This issue is top of mind with the team currently.

      • Aaron,

Thanks for your answer. Now I see the logic in that decision, I didn’t realize it was the same shortcuts as in Office. Anyway, I can live with that, since I usually don’t write code directly in Live Writer… it’s just a minor inconvenience.

By the way, I have a suggestion for the next version: it would be nice to have an option to format text as inline code (with the HTML code tag).

        Regards,
        Thomas

      • Thomas we release a fix for this AltGr problem today. If you download the Live Essentials suite it will contain the fix.
